Black Eye Bean Chaat/ Lobhiya Chat

On weekdays, no matter how early you get up in the morning, preparing elaborate breakfasts is just out of question for me. I always prefer to make something that is quick, tasty and satisfying without compromising on the health quotient. Black eye bean chaat is thus one of the preferred breakfast dishes.

Not only as breakfast, this can be served as evening snack or as a side dish with any meal too. Just apt for every season, I am sure its going to make a place in your home too..:)

Lobhiya Chaat Chat

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of Black eye beans soaked in water overnight or for at least 4-5 hrs.
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped cucumber
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • chopped cilantro for garnish
How do we proceed:
  1. Heat a pressure cooker and add oil to it.
  2. When hot, add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  3. Add black eye beans(drained), turmeric, chili, coriander powder, salt and 1/2 cup water to it.
  4. Mix everything well and close the lid.
  5. Pressure cook until one whistle. Don't cook more!!! It will turn it mushy.
  6. Open the lid only when the pressure is released.
  7. Now mix cucumber, tomato, chaat masala and lemon with boiled beans.
  8. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve.
